I don't think that metformin blocks the burning of that fat stored in the liver. Once glucose has been turned into fat, it can't be easily turned back into glycogen or glucose because the process of making fat Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17384082448952856117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30206473.post-74002706061798478842013-07-29T03:37:43.034-04:002013-07-29T03:37:43.034-04:00Jenny,

Take the case of the study that seemingly concludes that it is not beneficial for diabetics to attempt to lower their HbA1c. I believe those who were studied were relatively Rad Warrierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02822478962792020689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30206473.post-20117318458636679772012-08-25T11:34:08.891-04:002012-08-25T11:34:08.891-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Rad Warrierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02822478962792020689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30206473.post-61407532569048280742012-08-14T13:21:54.717-04:002012-08-14T13:21:54.717-04:00Dabro, I should have mentioned that most people wi...Dabro, I should have mentioned that most people with diabetes who are normal weight and thin are insulin sensitive. So reducing IR isn't an issue for them. Their problem is almost always that they are insulin deficient.Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17384082448952856117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30206473.post-51635094759415009462012-08-14T12:45:25.158-04:002012-08-14T12:45:25.158-04:00I don't think the weight at diagnosis provides...I don't think the weight at diagnosis provides sufficient data regarding treatment, progression or outcomes. What is possibly a more salient issue is that higher BMI patients at diagnosis have the extra tool of ameliorating insulin resistance by losing weight. Not as efficient a tool for thinner patients. This point alone could explain the result.Darbrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14833303130941952778noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30206473.post-52647350834376695262012-08-13T20:27:02.541-04:002012-08-13T20:27:02.541-04:00Anna, I'm with you in wishing there was more p...Anna, I'm with you in wishing there was more pure research about diabetes, especially since there is a wide variety of underlying causes of diabetes among people who are overweight, too. As one of many normal weight diabetics, I was naturally disturbed by this finding and the knee-jerk reaction indicating a faster demise for thin people. Simply being thin as a risk factor doesn't tell the story. What you say here seems plausible, however, I wish more would be done to try to truly understand the spectrum of this disease.Annahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17564128183507831253noreply@blogger.com
