Food is such a core issue that diets bring out all these irrational emotions in people and take on the trappings of religion. I'm allergic to orthodoxies of any type so it's natural for me to look at opposing viewpoints and other people's experiences to counter fanaticism wherever I find it.Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17384082448952856117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30206473.post-11685450844708598112012-06-15T13:11:54.447-04:002012-06-15T13:11:54.447-04:00I've purchased the Kindle edition of "Die...I've purchased the Kindle edition of "Diet 101" and have begun reading it.

Personally, I have found that the low-carb diet works for me and my impaired glucose metabolism (FBGs of 127 and 123, and an A1c of 6.5, when diagnosed as "prediabetic" nearly 4 1/2 years ago), and I have used it successfully for more than 4 years, now, to control my blood sugar levels.ShottleBophttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17513615111921645842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30206473.post-646698897032525022012-06-14T22:29:53.048-04:002012-06-14T22:29:53.048-04:00Thanks for the info, Jenny. That said, just getting them down to the level where they are now has really improved her quality of life. Blood sugars over 170 make her feel nervous and shaky, and she used to go into those "carb comas," so to speak. This may be a result of exposure to years of high blood sugars, though the Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17384082448952856117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30206473.post-68390390520044662072012-06-13T23:53:25.884-04:002012-06-13T23:53:25.884-04:00The part about blood sugars being stubbornly high ...The part about blood sugars being stubbornly high on a LC diet, when they've been high for years, makes me think that's my mom's case. She has T2, eats VLC, takes insulin and another medication, but still has FBG around 120 or 130.
