There are tons of crack pot drs doing this surgery. You have to use a reputable surgeon. If the stats were 1-200 drs would be sued left and right for malpractice. Since developing diabetes, I put on 100 lbs. At age 53 I decided to have a gastric bypass. It was the best decision I could have made. I had the surgery with a well-known surgeon and I have had excellent results. The surgery went fine with some pain in the right center abdomen, sort of a feeling like being kicked in that area. I just found and read the page on the ADA site! Not only do they not mention the word "Carbohydrate", they pretty much don't even mention diet, other than to say eat less and exercise more!Alcinda (Cindy) Moorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14950698583878546323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30206473.post-91748379396857131532008-04-28T18:50:00.000-04:002008-04-28T18:50:00.000-04:00I think a huge part of why the medical establishme...I think a huge part of why the medical establishment continues to ignore carbohydrates is that they have been telling people with diabetes to eat lots of carbs for several generations now.

So to face the truth of what they've been doing would mean a lot of doctors would have to accept that they have been giving out advice that worsened their patients' health.

The ADA raises a Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17384082448952856117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30206473.post-68177100306059251072008-04-28T18:32:00.000-04:002008-04-28T18:32:00.000-04:00Anonymous said: "did not CURE diabetes, it resulte...Anonymous said: "did not CURE diabetes, it resulted in temporary reductions in blood sugars"

I agree. My niece was diagnosed with blood sugars in the 700s. The only symptom she had was vision problems. She's a tad over 300# @ 5'8", early 40s. She stopped drinking regular sodas and dropped to "normal" ranges, so says she no longer has diabetes.

Back when I was in school (RN, 76 Alcinda (Cindy) Moorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14950698583878546323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30206473.post-25297441972107712272008-04-28T16:19:00.000-04:002008-04-28T16:19:00.000-04:00I wrote about this episode too, because I was also...I wrote about this episode too, because I was also horrified about the marketing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30206473.post-44759057817361831392008-04-22T13:22:00.000-04:002008-04-22T13:22:00.000-04:00Jenny - this was timely, well stated, and I hope w...Jenny - this was timely, well stated, and I hope will be widely disseminated. They said clinical trials have begun in San Paulo on the non-obese diabetics.

Bariatric surgery can result in severe nutrient deficiencies. He thought having diabetes alone should be enough!!

I am just amazed at this. Last week there was a write up and the people commenting were begging to find out how to qualify! The ads usually feature a large photo of an attractive, healthy-looking middle aged woman with a smaller "before" photo, and a brief story about how great her life is, thanks to the surgery. It is critically, vitally important for people to realize that bypass did not CURE diabetes, it resulted in temporary reductions in blood sugars, an early symptom of rapid weight loss and starvation. They have not shown these surgeries to actually cure diabetes, nor has any post-bypass study lasted long Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30206473.post-30591442139918447442008-04-21T15:39:00.000-04:002008-04-21T15:39:00.000-04:00Very interesting subject and a very useful perspec...Very interesting subject and a very useful perspective from you. The mortality statistics for gastric bypass surgery are even worse for those on Medicare, perhaps because they're generally older and many are on disability with multiple health problems. Here are results of one recent "meta-analysis" of outcomes from bariatric surgery (similar to what's proposed for diabetes). Mortality is a Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15825547576544521296noreply@blogger.com
